Superbowl 3rd & Long Hot Wings

by Christian on February 3, 2010

3 days left to the Superbowl.  You’ve got guests coming.  You’re not prepared.  It’s 3rd and long.  This recipe will get you the first down.

The Team

  • 4 lbs chicken wings (drummettes and flats)
  • 2 TBSP black pepper
  • 2 TBSP lemon pepper
  • 1 TBSP white pepper
  • 1 TBSP garlic powder
  • 2 TSP cayenne pepper
  • 2 TSP kosher salt
  • Special Teams (these guys are optional; you make the call, Coach)
    • Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
    • Blue Cheese or Ranch Dressing
    • Celery Sticks

The Playbook

Kick-off

Rinse and thoroughly pat dry chicken wings with a paper towel.

Mix all dry spice ingredients together in a small bowl.  In a large bowl, put wings and spices together and *RUB* spices into the wings with your hands.

Set Up a Zone Defense

Pile lit coals onto one side of the grill — giving you a “direct heat” zone and an “indirect heat” zone

Get the 1st Down

Grill seasoned wings over direct heat for about 5-7 minutes each side.  Move to indirect heat.  Cover and let cook for another 10 minutes.

Remove from the grill and serve, or go for extra yardage below.

Call in Special Teams

The Point After: After removing from the grill, mix with a generous portion (about 6 ozs.) of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce.  Any flavor will do.

2-point conversion: Serve with celery sticks and blue cheese or ranch dressing.

This recipe has made my husband the biggest hit at parties. Follow the exact recipe and don’t forget the hot sauce! These are purely delicious. A winning touchdown! Thanks Christian!

Thanks, Court. Max is the Wing King! Can I recruit him to man the grill this Sunday!? He’s that good.
